Shark Cage Group

A supportive, safe space for women to reclaim their boundaries after experiencing trauma.

Imagine that every person has an invisible shark cage around them that represents their boundaries, self-worth, and ability to protect themselves from harm.

Ideally, the cage is strong, with solid bars that prevent predators (toxic people or abusers) from getting too close. However, for many survivors of abuse or trauma, the cage may have weak bars or gaps, making it easier for “sharks” (manipulative or harmful individuals) to enter their space and cause harm.

This framework was developed by Psychologist and Clinical Supervisor Ursula Benstead and Teacher Angelle Hughes.

The group aims to increase your:

  • Knowledge and capacity to set healthy boundaries.
  • Assertive communication skills
  • Awareness of the impacts of abuse
  • Ability to care for and be kind to yourself
  • Connection to your feelings and body
  • Sense of self-worth
  • Belief in their entitlement to rights
  • Ability to recognise a potentially abusive or exploitative person

What previous participants said:

‘I learnt my rights as a woman.’

‘I feel much stronger.’

‘Incredible guides for this triggering and difficult journey. Very supportive, kind and empathetic to all.’

‘So grateful for this program. Thank you for this support and the gift of recognising self-worth.’

‘Thank you for allowing a safe space to recover from.’

‘It has made me think about my journey, about patterns in my life and potential signs. I hope this means I am better prepared to at least try and help implement boundaries. It has given me a better understanding of what rights I should have.’
