Taking the First Step: Khloe’s Story.

Khloe has always kept her distance from doctors, doing everything she can to avoid medical care. But when a health worry began to grow too loud to ignore, she found herself making an appointment at our clinic. Sitting in the waiting room for a routine cervical screening, Khloe’s hands fidgeted in her lap, her mind racing with uncertainty.

When she finally sat down with our practitioners, Khloe’s walls slowly began to crack. She spoke quietly about her lifelong struggle with her weight, about the emptiness of having no one to lean on. For years, she had been estranged from her family, carrying that silence everywhere she went.

Khloe then shared a secret she had kept locked away since childhood: she had been assaulted as a young girl. When she told her mother, she wasn’t believed. That moment changed everything, leaving her to carry the pain alone for decades.

Now self-employed and living by herself, Khloe wore her independence like armour, proud but isolated. Our nurse listened with care, seeing Khloe as more than just a patient, and gently explained the support and services available at Luma and in the wider community.

At first, Khloe hesitated. Reaching out was unfamiliar and scary. But as she learned about the programs, something inside shifted. She decided to take a small, brave step forward.

Now, Khloe attends three Luma programs, slowly weaving herself into a new support network. For the first time in years, the weight of doing everything alone is starting to lift. She’s learning how it feels to let others in and lean on a community for support.
